Matt Smoak Memorial Race, Mid Carolina Speedway Neeses, SC, March 6th 2010
Hey everyone! Even after 2 bad days of racing in Daytona, I stopped in Neeses, SC (2 hours southeast of where I live) to race the annual Matt Smoak Memorial Race. I feel very comfortable at this track. For the last 3 years I have been trying to qualify for the main event at this race and unfortunately I have been unsuccessful. Either I have had bike trouble or was just not fast enough. But this year was different, I have a bike I love!
After signing up and attending the racers meeting, I got geared up for practice. As I was heading out for practice all I could say to myself was forget about Daytona, it’s a new day and a better track. I felt great after the first practice session and just adjusted tire pressure a little bit. I went out for my second practice and felt even better; the bike hooked up just fine. I was ready for the qualifying heat. I ended up getting 5th in the hear which transferred me directly to the main. This made me very happy!
In the Main I ended up having to start from the 3rd row. I had a decent start, but had to push hard to get to the front, but man these guys were hauling fast! I just couldn’t get to the front at all, and was actually falling off the pace. I ended up pulling off with 3 laps to go because the leaders were catching me and I didn’t want to be in the way and mess a leaders race up. I had fun and made the main for the first time. I was happy! Now I will work on my speed for the next event.
As always tons of thanks to my sponsors and family!
